Common Causes of Multiple Vehicle Car Accidents

A car accident involving four vehicles is a rare occurrence. On average, a car accident will only involve one or two vehicles. Some instances where multiple vehicles are involved include:

  • Bad weather conditions
  • Going over the speed limit
  • Drunk driving
  • Distracted drivers
  • A police chase
  • Falling asleep

Determining Negligence or Fault in a Multiple Vehicle Car Accident

In the event of a car accident involving four vehicles how is fault determined? This is a complex process. Every driver has a responsibility to other drivers. This responsibility is to drive reasonably, carefully and obey all traffic laws. Investigators will often take the following steps to determine fault in a multiple vehicle car accident.

  1. Police will check the driving history of each driver to identify outstanding warrants, any cases of intoxication while driving, speeding tickets, reckless driving, etc.
  2. Other witnesses, passengers and all drivers will be interviewed.
  3. Pictures of the accident, the vehicles involved, skid marks, damages, etc. will be taken.
