A fatal DUI car crash gets a Boise man prison time of at least five years. The car accident occurred last March on Fairview Avenue. Reports state the car crash left one dead and three others injured. The Boise man pleaded guilty of felony vehicular manslaughter in June. Recently, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison with parole after five years. According to the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office, the Boise man’s blood alcohol level was 0.211 and he admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that day. Prosecutors said he agreed to drive four friends home from a bar knowing he was over the alcohol limit. The car accident occurred when the Boise man lost control trying to exit the Connector at about 75 mph. The car went across an on-ramp, rolled and then went across the street and onto a sidewalk. It was reported that the car rolled twice and hit a cable box before hitting a utility pole. Originally, the Boise man denied being the driver of the vehicle to police and claimed he did not know the deceased victim though they were friends. The Boise man admitted to knowing he had problems with alcohol prior to the accident and that his actions were reckless. He also had prior convictions for public intoxication and driving under the influence.

Backgroundcheck.org also reported Idaho as having increased its DUI problems by 32.1 percent since 2016. In addition, 70 people died last year in a DUI related car accident in Idaho.
