Head-on Car Accident Causes Wrongful Death in Nampa

Idaho State Police reported a head-on car accident in Nampa last Monday. A vehicle heading southbound crossed over the yellow center line and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. Both vehicles rolled from the impact. Two passengers of the oncoming vehicle were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and were ejected from the vehicle. Another passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident. All others involved in the accident were airlifted to a nearby hospital for evaluation of injuries. This wrongful death accident could have easily been prevented had the southbound driver followed these tips.

5 Tips to Prevent a Head-on Car Accident

Head-on collisions are all too common on Idaho rural roads. To keep you and others safe, here are some tips to prevent a head-on car accident.

When attempting to pass, do so only in legal situations.

Many times, a driver can become impatient when driving behind a slow-moving vehicle on a two-lane road. Never pass over a double line. It is only legal to pass when the line closest to your lane is dashed.

Never drive distracted.

A distracted driver is also all too common on Idaho roads. With the increased use of cell phones, more and more distracted drivers are on Idaho road every day. When you think about texting behind the wheel, remember who you may hurt in the event of a car accident.

Be alert and aware of other drivers.

The best way to avoid any accident is to always be alert and aware of the other vehicles traveling around you. Try to predict what another driver may do. In the event of driving down a two-lane road, keep your distance from the vehicle ahead of you and look for an escape route in the event there is an oncoming vehicle directly in front of you.

Never drink and drive.

Drinking and driving is another very common cause of head-on collisions. Alcohol impairs the brain making a person unable to drive safely. If you are hesitant as to whether you are able to drive after drinking, take a cab or call a friend.

Slow down around a curve or other hazards in the road.

In the event of bad weather, road debris or sharp curves, slow down. This is especially important when driving down a two-lane road.
