Remember to Think

Often when driving people tend to drive without much thought. Remember to concentrate on the road in bad weather conditions and watch out. Stay alert at all times.

Slow Down

As in all hazardous driving situations, slow down. The speed limit is for ideal driving conditions such as good weather and light traffic. In the rain or on wet pavement, your vehicle needs more time to stop than normal.

Turn on Your Headlights

When there is low visibility it is the law in all states to turn on your headlights. Many states also require the headlights to be on if the windshield wipers are in use.

Do Not Use Cruise Control

In a downpour, do not use cruise control. When roads are wet in icy, cruise control could cause you to lose control of the vehicle.

Be Cautious of Hydroplaning

Hydroplaning is the action of a vehicle sliding uncontrollably on a wet surface of road. It is easy for a vehicle to hydroplane. To hydroplane, only a small amount of wet pavement and speeds of over 35 mph are required.
