Rollover Car Accident in Boise from Driver Failing to Yield

Boise Police Department reported a rollover car accident on Ustick Road from a driver failing to yield the right of way after exiting a parking lot. A vehicle pulling out of a parking lot struck a pickup truck heading westbound on Ustick Road. Had the car gone into the center lane, the collision could have been avoided. The car rolled due to the force of impact and landed on its roof. Police and paramedics worked to get both occupants of the upside-down vehicle. Both the driver and passenger in the car were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation of injuries. The driver of the car was cited for failing to yield from the parking lot.

Failure to Yield Accidents

Recent data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that 94 percent of motor vehicle accidents are caused by driver error. Failure to yield is a leading cause of car accidents in America. Drivers who cause an accident by failing to yield are to be held liable for any resulting accidents.

When a driver gets behind the wheel, they take on the responsibility of being safe. This included following all rules of the road regarding yielding to other drivers in certain situations. Failing to yield may result in a citation if a police officer finds you at fault.

What makes these types of accidents different from others is that often the injury victim drives into the car that fails to yield. Failure to yield accidents happen in situations such as the following.

  • When a driver is making a left turn and fails to yield to oncoming traffic.
  • When a driver is aggressive about merging onto the highway.
  • Pulling out of a driveway.
  • At a four-way stop sign intersection.
  • Failing to yield to a pedestrian already in the crosswalk.
