Idaho Rules of the Road: Authorized Emergency or Police Vehicles
Interfering with a fire apparatus is prohibited as stated in the Idaho Rules of the Road. Some might think to follow an emergency vehicle or fire truck would save them time in traffic. However, doing such is prohibited by Idaho state law. In addition, driving over a fire hose in the road is prohibited and can cause serious and expensive damage to the property of the fire department. The Idaho Rules of the Road governing following a fire apparatus and crossing a fire hose is as follows:
Idaho Code § 49-626. FOLLOWING FIRE APPARATUS PROHIBITED.
The driver of any vehicle other than one on official business shall not follow closer than five hundred (500) feet any fire apparatus traveling in response to a fire alarm, or stop a vehicle within five hundred (500) feet of any fire apparatus stopped in answer to a fire alarm.
Idaho Code § 49-627. CROSSING FIRE HOSE.
No vehicle shall be driven over any unprotected hose of a fire department when laid down on any street, road or driveway to be used at any fire or alarm of fire, without the consent of the fire department official in command.
