It is important for drivers to remember farm equipment is indeed legal on Idaho roads and to be extra cautious when driving around the equipment. How to Drive Safely Around Slow Moving Vehicles

The following are some tips to drive safely around slow-moving vehicles such as farm tractors and other large vehicles that are not able to drive the speed limit.

  • Be patient. When it is safe, the driver of the farm equipment will allow you to pass.
  • Keep in mind the machinery might be longer and wider than it seems. The machinery might also swerve. Be sure to leave extra space to avoid a collision with the machinery.
  • Before passing a slow-moving vehicle, be sure to signal and make sure it is safe to pass.
  • Never rely on your vehicle’s horn to warn farmers. Tractors are very noisy and it is likely they won’t hear your car horn.
  • You do not have to wait for a farmer to signal you to pass. It is the driver’s decision to pass or not.
