Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies reported a truck accident northwest of Nine Mile Falls near Spokane. This one vehicle car accident involved three young adults who were heading south on N. South Bank Road. When the driver attempted to pass another vehicle, they lost control of the truck and went off the road hitting a fence and a tree. Unfortunately, the driver was declared dead at the scene. The other young adults in the truck were transported by ambulance to a nearby medical center for evaluation of injuries. Officials are still investigating what caused this accident. Speed, impairment and reckless driving are being said to have played a factor in this truck accident. Here are some tips for passing another vehicle safely.

Tips for Passing Another Vehicle

When passing another vehicle, there are a few things you should do to be safe.

  1. Use your signal to let other drivers know your intention to change lanes.
  2. Check to make sure you can pass without hitting another vehicle. Never dart into another lane without checking your blind spot.
  3. Don’t move back over to the original lane of travel too quickly. Moving back too close to the car behind your could cause you to get rear-ended.

When NOT to Pass

  1. Do not pass when there is a solid line separating the lanes.
  2. Do not pass on a hill or a curve.
  3. Do not pass within 100 feet of a bridge or tunnel.
  4. Do not pass within 100 feet of a railroad crossing or intersection.

Teens Involved in Wrongful Death Car Crash

A teenager was involved in a wrongful death car crash on Fairway Avenue due to the driver speeding on a curvy residential street. Four other teens in the car were injured in the crash. South Salem residents are now concerned about speed safety on this street. The posted speed limit is 25-mph for Fairway Avenue which is a residential street. Salem police reported at least four other car crashes on this street within the last year. Residents are now calling for the installation of speed bumps to keep drivers from going too fast on this residential road. However, according to a Master System Transportation Plan for Salem, Fairway Avenue is a collector street, meaning it serves to connect residential areas to larger roads. Collector streets do not qualify for speed bumps according to a Public Works director with the City of Salem. Larger collector streets are often used by emergency responders to quickly get to an accident. Fairway Avenue also does not meet other requirements for speed bumps such as at least 600 drivers per day. Also, the street would need to have over half the drivers traveling at or over the speed limit. Neither are the case for Fairway Avenue.

Injury Crash and Wrongful Death from Driver Hitting Farm Implement

Idaho State Police reported an injury crash and later a wrongful death from a driver hitting a farm implement. A John Deere tractor was pulling a farm implement on US95 when the driver of a Volvo struck the rear end of the farm implement. The Volvo came to rest in a nearby field. The driver of the Volvo was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital. Her passenger was air lifted to a nearby medical center with serious injuries. It was reported that the passenger later died from injuries sustained from the accident. It was also reported that neither the driver of the passenger of the Volvo was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Idaho State Police reported that both northbound lanes of US95 were blocked from two hours and forty-eight minutes following the crash.
